Dada daa daa, dada daa daa, dada daa daa daaaaaaa! Ring a bell? Did you know the original Nokia ringtone is actually a 1902 classical waltz? Written in 1902 by Francisco Tárrega as ‘Gran Vals’, the notes in 4 of its bars became the most heard melody in human history. Quite randomly, I woke up one morning recently with the tune ringing in my head. No idea why! Felt a sudden nostalgia for those bulky ‘un’smart devices and the days when we used phones to…well, to just call people! In the Garden Shed Studio, I took the original theme, changed the rhythm, composed a new second movement, and gave it a busy signal ending. It releases on August 14 on all streaming services and I’m hoping for a good reception (pun intended) for it following the popularity of its predecessor, Monsieur. – Hovig Nassanian (cover star of just cypriot hits and Cypriot Folk)
