Michalis Andronikou is a Cyprus-born composer and musicologist currently residing in Calgary, Alberta. He holds a PhD in Composition from the University of Calgary and Bachelor’s and Integrated Master’s degrees in Musicology from the Department of Music Studies at the University of Athens, Greece.
He holds Diplomas in Classical Guitar, Clarinet, and Music Theory from Trinity College and the Royal Academy of Music, as well as a Diploma in Byzantine Music from the Argyroupolis Municipal Conservatory. He also studied Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue, and Music Composition with Theodore Antoniou at the Hellenic Conservatory. In addition, he has studied Greek folk instruments, including lute, tamboura, and bouzouki.
Andronikou has composed music for small and large ensembles, theatre productions, art exhibitions, films, and voice. Since 2003, ten CDs featuring his works have been released. His compositions and scores have been published by Cypress Choral Music and Palliser Music Publishing in Canada; Balkanota in Bulgaria; Da Vinci Edition in Italy; Joachim-Trekel-Musikverlag in Germany; Trübcher Music Editions in England; and Alea Publishing & Recording in the United States.
Michalis Andronikou is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre, a member of the Canadian League of Composers, a Theory Examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music, a member of the Greek Composers Union and the Center of Cypriot Composers, and an Ambassador of Culture for the Hellenic Institute of Cultural Diplomacy–Cyprus.
